What is Pharmacy?


Pharmacy is the science and technique of preparing, dispensing, and reviewing drugs and providing additional clinical services. It is a health profession that links health sciences with pharmaceutical sciences and aims to ensure the safe, effective, and affordable use of drugs. The professional practice is becoming more clinically oriented as most of the drugs are now manufactured by pharmaceutical industries. Based on the setting, the pharmacy is classified as a community or institutional pharmacy. Providing direct patient care in the community of institutional pharmacies are considered clinical pharmacy.


Scope of Pharmacy:


The pharmacy sector offers lots of opportunities to the students after the completion of the course. The students can work in a Pharmaceutical company or can practice as a Pharmacist. There is huge number of opportunities available for the students in both public and the private sector. You can also work in a government sector. Beside this, you can also work in an Abroad Company.

After completing a graduation degree, you can work at government hospitals, private medical shops & private hospitals/clinics. You can also start your own consultancies & medical shop.

The students can work in a Pharmaceutical company or can practice as a Pharmacist. In Pharmaceutical Company, you can work in departments such as quality control, manufacturing, packing marketing, production, etc.


What Are a Pharmacist's Job Duties?


1. Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to give to patients.
2. Check whether prescriptions will interact negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or any medical conditions the patient has.
3. Instruct patients on how and when to take a prescribed medicine and inform them about potential side effects from taking the medicine.
4. Give flu shots and, in most states, other vaccinations.
5. Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best to treat a health problem.
6. Complete insurance forms and work with insurance companies to ensure that patients get the medicines they need.
7. Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training (interns).
8. Keep records and do other administrative tasks.
9. Teach other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients.


Who is a Pharmacist?


Pharmacists are healthcare professionals with specialized education and training who perform various roles to ensure optimal health outcomes for their patients through the quality use of medicines. Pharmacists may also be small-business proprietors, owning the pharmacy in which they practice. Since pharmacists know about the mode of action of a particular drug, and its metabolism and physiological effects on the human body in great detail, they play an important role in optimization of drug treatment for an individual.

Eligibility for admission :


For admission to the Pharmacy courses, students should have passed class 12th with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics/Biology. Students have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the qualifying examination.
